Seal Up All Entry Points

The best way one can get rid of squirrels once and for all is to seal-up all entries to your house. However, this is not a simple task. You definitely don’t want to seal squirrels while they are inside your home, don’t you? To prevent this, you should observe your squirrel intruder’s habits and decide when you should take some action.

You should observe when your squirrel intruders go out for food. Is it during the day or during the night? Knowing when squirrels at your household go out for food tells you when to take action regarding how to get rid of squirrels.

During daytime, head up to your attic and look for any light that shines through cracks and holes in your home’s exterior. Squirrels invade your home by coming through small cracks and holes in your home.

These rodents can come through openings as small as 2 inches. Also be sure to check out your soffits, roof vents, siding, and other openings. If you see any cracks or openings, seal them with metal mesh.

Seal All But One Entry Point While Squirrels Aren’t Home
Once you know when squirrels at your home come and go, you should seal all entry points except one entry point that squirrels use the most. Some sealing options are:

• Sheet metal, stainless steel mesh, aluminum flashing

• Use foam sealant or caulk to close up openings. Foam sealant and caulk are excellent since you can paint them over.

When you are sure that squirrels are not present at your home at the moment, you should close their main entry point.

Don’t Kill Squirrels

It is inhumane to kill squirrels in your home and outside it. Killing squirrels is not the only option to get rid of squirrels. The best and humane way to get rid of squirrels is to use live squirrel traps.

Once you catch a squirrel in live squirrel trap, release it far away from your home.

Squirrel Bait

Speaking of squirrel baits, we want to let you know that you can’t use solid baits since squirrels can take them and avoid your squirrel trap.

The best squirrel bait is peanut butter. You just need to apply some peanut butter onto the live squirrel trap onto trap trigger and you will easily catch your squirrel.

Fencing

If you want to make squirrels completely unable to access your household, you should build a tall fence with a roof.
